Toddler Activities - Enjoy Quality Time With Your Kid

Toddler Activities

Toddler activities play an important part in learning during this very formative period in your child’s life. It has been said that your child will learn more before he goes to school then he ever will once he gets there.

Since a toddler’s mind is like a sponge, it is crucial that you incorporate educational activities into his day-to-day routine.

Here are just a few of the things you can do with your child to make sure they are getting the best foundation possible:

  • You can find objects with different textures around your home. Ask your toddler to rub the object and notice the different textures—rough, smooth, grainy, bushy, feathery, satiny, etc. This also works for teaching your child shapes.

  • Another favorite toddler activity is to incorporate rhymes or singing into whatever you’re doing together. Children love rhyme, rhythm and song, which all helps them remember the words you’re saying.

  • Some popular educational activities to try with your child include puzzles, sorting games, matching games, zigzag games, building blocks, and coloring. All of these activities help develop various thinking, reasoning, and motor skills.

  • To teach your child about colors, try making each day a different color theme. Have your child wear that color, eat food that color, and draw some pictures with that color.

  • Visit your local mall for some window-shopping. This is a great way to start teaching your child about all sorts of people, things, manners, and even a little about money.

Seasonal Activities

Toddler Activities 1 In the summer, there is a host of outdoor activities such as:

  • playing in the sun and the water
  • going to the park, swinging, sliding,
  • visiting the zoo to learn about animals
  • learning to ride a bike
  • swimming
  • feeding the ducks at a nearby lake—these are all fun ideas for summer.

Fall is a great time for your child to learn about leaves, pumpkins, ghosts, and dressing up for Halloween.

In the winter you can:

  • take advantage of your local library
  • join reading programs
  • sign up for fun classes
  • and check out educational videos that will keep your child occupied during these months indoors.

Spring is a great time for learning about the power of wind and how to fly a kite. You can even start teaching your child how to kick or bat a ball around the yard.

Each season can provide a wealth of new toddler activities for you to enjoy together.

Storytelling

A list of favorite toddler activities could never be complete without the telling of stories. All children love to have books read to them or to hear their favorite stories over and over again.

Your child will learn much about voice inflection and facial expression through storytelling. You can even make the stories more interesting by using different voices and sock puppets to tell the story.

In whatever activity you pursue, you are incorporating many other learning experiences for your child. For example, we are not born knowing how to follow instructions. This is a learned skill, preferably one that your child should grasp before going to school.

Toddler activities are all about taking ordinary happenings from your day and turning them into a learning experience that your child will always remember.
